What is The Common Room?

A historic home to the north easts engineering heritage, and a vibrant venue for events, culture and community. Home to the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers since 1872. Located in the restored Neville Hall in Newcastle, The Common Room preserves the regions industrial legacy while hosting conferences, weddings, gigs and public events.


Our Mission

The Common Room is a charity dedicated to sharing the North East’s engineering heritage. Through our historic building , archives and public programme, we connect the region’s industrial past with it’s future. Income from venue hire, events and our café bar helps support The Common Room’s charitable work and heritage archive and collection.
