Full description

Join local author Les Turnbull for the launch of his latest publication “Celebrating Tyneside’s Railway Heritage”.

This booklet takes you on a walk around Central Station discovering the hidden heritage of early railways beneath your feet.  Combined with Les’s research and memories, this makes a fascinating journey for both the railway enthusiast and people coming to the history of the railways for the first time.

September 2025 is being celebrated as the 200th anniversary of the modern railway thanks to the Stockton and Darlington line, but come and hear about the earlier systems on Tyneside and how they led to the creation of the modern railway.

The booklet will be available to buy for £6 – why not follow up the event with a walk around the route?
