The Common Room launches their individual giving scheme in time for ‘Remember a Charity in your Will’ week, 9-15th September this year.
Leaving a gift in your will to The Common Room will enable the preservation of the historic building and world class collection for the benefit of the public, and to preserve the legacy of The Mining Institute’s rich heritage to inspire the young people of today to become the engineers and innovators of tomorrow.
The Common Room project is costed at £7.1 million, in August 2018 notification was received from the National Lottery Heritage Fund that a grant of £4.1 million had been awarded, leaving a match funding target of £3 million.
The Common Room have secured £1.9 million to date in direct commitments from trusts and foundations and individual donors. This support comes from a diverse range of local and national supporters who have bought into the vision and aspirations of The Common Room.
Another £1.5 million still needs to be raised to complete the project. The Common Room have received support from the North East LEP who have agreed a £1.5million cash flow loan to enable time to fill the funding gap.
