About the Exhibition
Over the last 3 years, The Common Room has worked with local people to uncover stories and histories of mining and engineering across the Great Northern Coalfield, in the North East of England.
The Common Room and historian, Dr Dorothy Hamilton, worked with 4 groups of adult learners across County Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear to research the industrial heritage of their local areas, with some focusing on specific key individuals and innovations, whilst others uncovered aspects of social history where they live.
Each group co-created a display banner with The Common Room and Dr Dorothy Hamilton, which are now on display at The Common Room, and showcase the discoveries each group made over their 10-week course.
