About this event
Join the Rock Showman and take part in 3 activities which totally rock, at this family-friendly workshop! Explore geology specimens such as dinosaur fossils, minerals, and shiny crystals. See how many points you can score as you work your way around each activity, and take home your very own dinosaur bone, crystal or fossil! These family-friendly science workshops explore our region’s Earth history and welcome all ages to explore what lies beneath our feet.
Please note, these workshops are the same as those which ran from 16th – 20th August 2021.
Mineral Snap!
Do you know your quartz from your fluorite, or your jet from your coal? Learn how to identify crystals, minerals, fossils and shiny things with Mineral Snap, by matching rocks from the Rock Showman’s marvellous collection, with The Common Room’s own Minerals and Ores Display!
Beach Combing Bingo!
Join The Rock Showman and his team to discover Jurassic fossils in a portable chunk of Yorkshire! Budding paleontologists can learn the skills of fossil hunting, as they dig through millions of years of our world’s past. What could you find if you knew what to look for?
Identify the Fossilised Plant!
Explore our world 300 million years ago through simulation, and match the plants and trees you encounter with the fossils in front of you! This activity brings to life how the fossils we can find in our region today were once part of our carboniferous landscape.
