Our volunteers are a key part of The Common Room team. We have over 60 active volunteers working both in the building and from home, mainly in our archive and collection department. Our group is diverse, including individuals seeking work experience at the start of their careers and those recently retired from the sector, looking to use their skills to help us on our journey.

Flexibility is at the core of our volunteer programme. We offer placements to support people looking to return to work after a career break or students seeking placements for their courses. This approach enriches the vibrant community at The Common Room.

Between 2021 and 2023, our volunteers contributed an astounding 10,000 hours, equating to a monetary value of £270,000. This remarkable achievement is a testament to their dedication and the essential role they play in our organisation.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all our volunteers. You ensure The Common Room remains a place where history is preserved and celebrated.
